Increase in number of US troops in Iraq
Another pledge by US President Barack Obama is broken. The US has announced troop increase for Iraq. Reports say the US military is preparing to create bases in northern Iraq to help the Iraqi army against ISIL terrorists. The move is already seen with skepticism by the media with many raising alarms that the Pentagon is sending boots back on the ground in Iraq.
Panama papers fallout
The massive fallout from the so-called Panama Papers, the largest leak of documents which has exposed the financial affairs of the powerful, continues to send shock waves around the world. The leak from the Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca has already taken one victim. The prime minister of Iceland, with more casualties to come.
Al-Manar off the air
A fresh move against Lebanon’s resistance movement Hezbollah; Egypt-based satellite provider Nilesat has taken the movement’s TV channel al-Manar off the air. The reason? Al-Manar’s alleged promotion of violence and sectarian strife, perceived as due to pressure from Saudi Arabia, itself a backer of terrorism and promoter of sectarianism.
