Israel’s move to construct a controversial part of its separation wall in the occupied West Bank has drawn condemnation from Palestinian officials and residents. Israel has begun building the barrier near the Palestinian Christian town of Beit Jala, south of Jerusalem al-Quds. Mayor of the town has denounced the move calling it a land grab. A spokesman for the Palestine Liberation Organization has also condemned the Israeli construction, saying it’s in fact consolidating apartheid in the West Bank. Residents of Beit Jala fear that the wall could lead to the expansion of the nearby Israeli settlements. They say Tel Aviv is seeking to steal part of their future state through what they call the apartheid wall.
