West conspiracies against Syria backfiring: Commentator

Press TV has interviewed Ibrahim Mousawi, a political commentator in Beirut, to discuss a report saying that four European Union member states have been branded as the largest source of European militants fighting in Syria.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: Here we have the facts coming from four countries that these terrorists are operating in war zones of Iraq and Syria, now the key question is this is not something new but what are these countries going to do about it since they are aware of their citizens fighting there and then returning back home?

Mousawi: This is one of the complicated issues that the Western countries have to tackle especially the countries that you mentioned, the four countries. We are talking here about the UK, about France, Belgium and Germany and according to the new story that you have already broadcasted, the majority of those came from Germany.

Of course the things that have been done against Syria, all the conspiracies that have been designated in the Western world against Syria is now backfiring to the originating countries and I believe this is a big problem that they have to handle, maybe they have to take more important actions in order to eradicate the danger in their own societies and we have already been able to witness what kind of effects it has repurcated in France and in Belgium recently. This might be the situation for the future.

We might be able, it is very probable, to see more and more terrorist attacks taking place in Europe in many different countries in the Western world, especially in Europe, but at the same time this is something, this is an invitation to the Western governments to take real measures in order to revisit the concepts about Syria and what they should do about Syria.

They should do everything possible in order to cooperate with the Syrian government and with all of the governments that are battling the terrorism so they can minimize or they can eradicate the danger that might come to their own countries.

Press TV: One of the countries that experienced terrorism just a couple of months back not even was France, almost 140 people were killed and if you recall, the French president came out, was very much aggressive in terms of how it is going to cooperate with Russia, it sent a warship, but then now you do not hear anything about any efforts from France inside Syria in terms of any cooperation with Russia to try to eradicate these terrorists. It is almost as if they are subservient to the policies of the US and its regional allies. Why is that?

Mousawi: Here you can talk about a kind of political schizophrenia taking place in the Western headquarters and in the circles of the decision making in France and in Europe, in different places. At one hand they are looking for their investments, they have capitalized and they have pinned hopes that they are going to get rid of the Syrian government. They themselves have helped and have funneled and they turned a blind eye let alone that they did not say anything or they did not take any measure against the [Persian] Gulf countries that helped the terrorists to come, that helped to finance them. They have never taken any precautions, any measures, any sanctions against them with the hope that this is going to capitalize; this is going to result in tangible results for them.

At the end of the day, they found out that they were deceived, that all the conspiracies, all the plots and the plans they have designated, they were in complete fiasco and they were sabotaged by the resistance forces and by the persistence and the solidarity of the Syrian people, the Syrian government and their capability to defeat the terrorists.

My understanding is that we do not need to hear more words, actions speak louder. We should see kind of measures that could really put an end, clamp down over the terrorists rather than statements and political slogans.

Press TV: And finally, three out of those four countries for the most part France, Germany and the UK are known to have sold quite a bit of arms to one of the countries that is one of US’s, if not strongest allies in the region, that is namely Saudi Arabia and to this day they still continue to sell Saudi Arabia some arms and some of these arms will slightly do end up as it has been reported to be provided to these terrorists inside Syria for example.

So don’t these countries realize that if this goes around in a circle that it is going to bite them back, as you mentioned the case of blowback when it comes to European residents returning back to Europe?

Mousawi: Exactly. Actually... they are going to reap what they sowed in the country in Syria and even in Lebanon and in different parts where the people are paying a heavy price from their blood and from their safety, from their protection. The same applies to Europe in this token because if they continue to do the same thing, if they continue only to give slogans and to give statements, it is only rhetoric without taking decisive measures against the terrorists.

They should in any way, I mean we all heard about the clamp down of arms, not giving Saudi Arabia the opportunity to buy more arms from Europe, we hear about the parliament in Europe that they have taken decisions but I believe the governments, every individual government in [the] European Union should take decisions in order to stop giving arms to Saudi Arabia because they are finding their way not only to support the terrorists in Syria but also killing the Yemeni people.

We know very well that ... we are talking about scores of massacres that take place, now it is a year since the Saudi aggression against Yemen started and it is all punctuated with lots of massacres thanks to the European arms.
