US Secretary of State John Kerry has criticized campaigns held by presidential hopefuls, saying they've embarrassed the United States.
Kerry made the remarks after being asked about the candidates’ anti-Muslim rhetoric. Although he didn't specify any particular candidate or the comments made by them, he's widely believed to have made the remarks in reference to Republican hopefuls Donald Trump and Ted Cruz. Trump has proposed a temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States. Cruz, for his turn, has talked about fighting Islamism at every level. He has also proposed sending police to monitor Muslim neighborhoods, describing it as a method of enforcing protective law.
Anthony Hall, a professor at the University of Lethbridge, in Alberta, Canada, believes that Secretary Kerry himself is a product of the Islamophobia movement which accelerated following the 9/11 attacks.
