Here is a round-up of global news developments:
- Israeli forces have shot to death two Palestinian in the occupied West Bank. The victims were killed after they allegedly stabbed and wounded a soldier at a checkpoint in the Tel Rumeida neighborhood of Hebron also known as al-Khalil. 208 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli troops since early October.
- Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov says Europe must drop its geopolitical games and get serious in the fight against terrorism after the Brussels bomb attacks. He asked EU members to unite behind anti-terror efforts. Lavrov noted that Russia is still monitoring the crossing of militants and illegal oil trade on the Syrian-Turkish border.
- A group of Iraqi and European intelligence officials say Daesh has trained some 600 terrorists to carry out deadly attacks in European countries. The officials, who have been tasked with monitoring terrorist cells, revealed that Daesh training camps are located in Syria, Iraq, and possibly the former Soviet republics.
- Belgium's Health Ministry says 61 victims are in intensive care following Tuesday's terror attacks in the capital Brussels. The Health Ministery also says the death toll could rise. Two attackers have been identified as Ibrahim and Khalid El Bakraoui. A third one was bomb-making expert Najim Laachraoui who is still at large.
- British teachers and farmers have staged separate anti-government demonstrations in London. The teachers were angry over government plans to force all schools in England to become independent academies by 2022. The farmers also slammed the government for failing to deliver their basic payments on time.
- Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics has released a report which says settler units’ starts in the occupied West Bank jumped by 26 percent last year. The report said that ground was broken for more than 19-hundred settler units in 2015 compared with nearly 1,500 units the previous year.
- The United Nations Children’s Fund says 87-million children around the world have been living in conflict zones and traumatizing conditions that can hinder the development of their brains. The UN agency noted that in addition to the immediate physical threats, children could suffer emotional scars.
- Colombian government and FARC rebels have missed a self-imposed March 23rd deadline to clinch a peace deal. The two sides have promised to continue trying to reach an agreement. Efforts to end Latin America’s last civil war have been going on for more than three years now.
