The US cannot be trusted to work with the International Criminal Court (ICC) on bringing Daesh to justice as Washington is working towards the same objectives as the terror group, American geopolitical analyst Eric Draitser says.
The White House announced Thursday that the US is ready to work with the ICC in any possible probe into the genocide committed by the Daesh terrorist group in Iraq and Syria.
"The United States will cooperate with independent efforts to investigate genocide," White House spokesman Josh Earnest said on Thursday.
Earnest added that the administration of President Barack Obama is willing to support the ICC in collecting evidence.
The announcement came shortly after the United States finally declared that Daesh “genocide” against religious minorities, particularly Shia Muslims, Christians, and Izadi Kurds in Iraq and Syria, and vowed to halt it.
“The reality is, something that won’t be discussed by most corporate media in the West, is the simple fact that the United States, in being part of this so-called investigation, is going to completely whitewash its own complicity,” Draister said.
“This is really a distortion of the reality when we hear that the United States is going to be involved in an investigation.” He said. “The truth is you can’t have criminals investigating their own crimes.”
He said it is not fair to accuse the US of completely having Daesh under control, but it safe to assume that “they certainly were working towards the same ends in Syria and Iraq.”
Later on in his remarks, Draitser questioned Washington’s intentions behind the move, noting that the US is not even a member of the ICC and basically puts itself above it.
“So why exactly is the United States taking the lead in doing this investigation in the first place” he asked.
