Pullout comes as Syria peace talks underway in Geneva

The Russian president has stressed that Moscow will continue to support the Syrian government. Vladimir Putin say Russia will re-deploy its military forces to Syria within hours if deemed necessary. Putin was speaking to returning servicemen. He also rejected any rift between Moscow and Damascus, adding that Russia’s partial pullout was coordinated with the Syrian government. On Monday, most of the Russian military contingent was ordered to return home. The Kremlin says the five-month military presence has accomplished the intended goals.
