Here is a round-up of global news developments:
- Syrian Kurdish fighters known as YPG have accused foreign backed militants of violating the ceasefire in Aleppo. YPG says the militants targeted the mainly Kurdish Sheikh Maksoud district in Aleppo and other areas near the city. Militant groups have made a similar accusation, saying the Kurdish fighters violated the truce.
- The president of the European council is set to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the migrant crisis. Donald Tusk is seeking to encourage Turkey to take serious measures to curb the continuing flow of refugees into Europe.
- Turkey’s Justice Ministry has demanded the parliament lift the immunity from prosecution of the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party's leaders and lawmakers. The Justice Ministry’s request was submitted to the prime minister's office. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has repeatedly called for the party's MPs to face prosecution.
- Brazilian authorities have arrested former President Luiz Inatsio Lula se Silva over charges of corruption and money laundering. Brazilian media say one of Lula’s sons was investigated as well. Lula is suspected of having links with a scandal surrounding the country’s oil giant Petorbras.
- Israeli forces have leveled over 40 Palestinian houses south of the city of Nablus in the occupied West Bank. The UN says the demolitions left 36 Palestinians homeless including 11 minors. Tel Aviv has repeatedly destroyed Palestinian homes, saying they’ve been built illegally.
- Israeli forces have shot dead a Palestinian woman in the West Bank. The Israeli army says the woman was shot after ramming her vehicle into a group of Israeli soldiers in south Bethlehem. The military says one of the soldiers was wounded in the incident.
- US forces have carried out a drone strike in the southeastern Yemeni province of Shabwah. Local officials say the drone attack targeted a car carrying al-Qaeda militants. At least four people have been killed in the strike.
- The United States and South Korea have started formal talks on deploying an advanced missile system in the northeast Asian country. Seoul says initial discussions will focus on the potential locations as well as cost-sharing and a timeline for installation of the missile system known as THAAD.
