An Afghan man wounded in a suicide attack receives medical treatment at a facility in Kunar province on February 27, 2016. At least 10 people were killed and over 40 injured in a suicide bombing in Afghanistan

A bomb blast has rocked Afghanistan’s eastern province of Kunar, killing at least 10 people.

The blast took place near a market. Over 40 other people were injured in the attack. A local source said a prominent tribal leader was the target of the bombing. No group has taken responsibility for the attack so far but Afghan officials usually blame the Taliban militants for such attacks. It comes as direct talks between Kabul and the Taliban are due to take place next week. Afghanistan has seen a series of bomb attacks over the past few months. Most regions across the war-torn country is still a hotbed of Taliban militancy over 14 years into the US-led occupation which began in 2001.
