Hamas official praises Iran’s support for Palestinians

Osama Hamdan, the head of Hamas’ international relations committee

The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has praised Iran’s support for Palestinians in the face of Israel's acts of aggression.

Osama Hamdan, the head of Hamas’ international relations committee, also lauded Iran’s assistance to the Palestinian nation.

The Hamas official made the remark in a press conference at the Iranian embassy in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, ISNA reported on Thursday.

He reaffirmed the Palestinian's resolve to continue their resistance against Israel’s occupation, rejecting any compromise with the Tel Aviv regime.

It would be a “delusion” to think that the Palestinian nation would agree to compromise with Israel for peaceful coexistence, Hamdan said.

He also criticized certain countries, especially the US, for their attempts to strengthen the position of the Israeli regime in the Arab and Muslim world.

The remarks by the Hamas official come as the occupied Palestinian territories have been witnessing heightened tensions over the past months.

The latest wave of tensions was triggered by Israel’s imposition in August 2015 of restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshipers into the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East al-Quds (Jerusalem).

The restrictions have enraged Palestinians, who are also angry at increasing violence by Israeli settlers frequently storming the al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam.

The Palestinians say the Tel Aviv regime seeks to change the status quo of the compound.

More than 180 Palestinians have lost their lives at the hands of Israeli forces since October 2015.
