A 20-year-old Palestinian has been shot and killed by Israeli forces outside Damascus Gate in al-Quds (Jerusalem).

The Israelis opened fire on the Palestinian youth on Friday, alleging that he had attacked two Israeli forces. He was identified as Mohammed Abu Khalaf from Kafr Aqeb village in the East al-Quds.

According to medics, a 50-year-old woman also sustained a light injury to the leg due to the shooting and was transferred to a hospital in East al-Quds.

On Thursday, an armed Israeli settler shot two Palestinians at a supermarket near the West Bank city of Ramallah. One of the Palestinians died at the scene while the other was seriously injured.

Since the start of October 2015, some 180 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in what is regarded as the third Palestinian Intifada (uprising).

Tensions heightened in the Palestinian territories in August 2015, when Israel imposed restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshipers into the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East al-Quds (Jerusalem).

The Palestinians say the Tel Aviv regime seeks to change the status quo of the holy Muslim site.

A UN human rights expert recently slammed Israel for using excessive force against Palestinian protesters amid ongoing tensions between the two sides in the occupied territories.

Makarim Wibisono, the UN’s special rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories, said the upsurge in violence was a “grim reminder” of the unsustainable human rights situation in the Palestinian territories.
