Press TV has conducted an interview with Kim Sharif, director of the Human Rights for Yemen from London, on the Saudi bombing against Yemen in defiance of international calls for a political solution to the conflict in the Arab nation.
The following is a rough transcription of the interview.
Press TV: We have Iran on the one hand, along with of course this UN envoy, which is calling for a political solution, pushing for dialogue and pushing for peace, but then you have Saudi Arabia, supported by the US and the UK, which keeps bombing Yemen, why don’t they want to push for a political solution?
Sharif: The solution is clearly a political solution for the Yemenis to sort out their own differences, but you see, like you quite rightly said, the Saudi regime is not prepared to allow that to happen.
The Saudi regime’s intention is to control Yemen, either Yemen becomes a colony for it or it is not allowed to exist independently as a democratic nation. The humanitarian situation is so dire, is disgraceful. People are dying due to lack of medicine, food and malnutrition and lots of other things, diseases are spreading easily.
And the willpower is in the hands of the world powers. And I’m grateful to hear that Iran continues to support the political solution to the problem in Yemen, but you quite rightly say, the bombardment must cease and must cease immediately for there to be any realistic solution.
The Saudis have no business continuing this bombardment and continue to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity while the rest of the world is sitting back and watching.
The UN has lost credibility. The international law and rules and systems have become meaningless, because you’ve got a nation that supplies the ideology of terror to the world.
And shockingly I noticed that the Saudis are planning to commit ground troops to Syria. This is so bizarre. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry, because why haven’t they defended their own borders in southern parts of Jizan, Asir and Najran, when they are planning to commit land troops to Syria; that’s impossible.
The Saudis have gone completely mental and it’s quite clear everyone is seeing this that they have gone completely crazy, but some sensible nations in the world need to get up and tell this lunatic rogue state that it must stop. Unfortunately like you say, the US appears to be backing it and is disinterested in telling this rogue state to behave itself.
At the end of the day, both the US and the Saudi regime will lose out of this illegal war most spectacularly. The US hasn’t recovered from its dented and stained reputation out of the Guantanamo Bay affair. And for it to be taken on this liability is bizarre to say the least.
