Iranian referee Vahid Arzpeyma Mohamareh will officiate at the forthcoming 2016 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Futsal Championship, which is scheduled to be held in Uzbekistan later this month.
On Friday, the organizing committee of the 14th edition of the biennial international tournament appointed the 39-year-old to referee at the games.
During the official draw held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on December 2, 2015, Iran joined China, Iraq and Jordan in Group B of the forthcoming sports event.
The hosts, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia form Group A, while Chinese Taipei, Tajikistan, Thailand and Vietnam are put in Group C. Group D consists of Australia, Japan, Malaysia and Qatar.
The top two teams in each group (eight teams in total) will qualify for the knockout stage.
The top five teams will qualify for the 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup, which will be the 8th edition of the event, in Colombia.
The 2016 AFC Futsal Championship will be staged in Tashkent on February 10 through February 21.
Iran is the most successful team in the tournament with ten titles.
The Persians finished runner-up once in 2014, and stood on the bronze podium in 2006 and 2012.
On November 8, 2015, the national Iranian men’s futsal team suffered a 3-4 defeat from Brazil in the final match of the 10th edition of the Grand Prix de Futsal staged at the Olimpico Engenheiro Wagner do Nascimento sports hall in Brazil's Uberaba, finishing as the runner-up.
The Grand Prix de Futsal was first held in 2005, and is held annually in Brazil.
