From the vantage point of a satellite, you can see the glittering Earth through a stunning looping video that shows our cosmic home as a massive organic system in its normal rotation speed.
The Japanese meteorological satellite, Himawari-8, recorded this amazing video of an entire day in early August last year. Being in a geostationary orbit, Himawari-8 circles the earth exactly as fast as our planet is spinning -- once a day -- and is positioned over Japan and Australia.
The satellite rotates around the Earth from a distance of 35,790 kilometers (22,240 miles), much farther away than the orbit in which the International Space Station circles the planet, which is 330 and 435 kilometers (205 and 270 miles).
