- Iran’s Transport Minister says the country will sign a contract for the purchase of 114 Airbus passenger jets from France. Abbas Akhoundi said Iran needs 250 million dollars in funding for airport navigation systems and is ready to absorb investments by all companies except those affiliated with Israel.
- The New York Times says Saudi Arabia has funded many CIA covert operations, including the arming of militants in Syria. The US daily says the Saudi funding has been going on for decades and that’s why Washington falls short of criticizing Riyadh for its human rights abuses and support for extremists.
- Kurdish protesters have gathered in the German city of Frankfurt to condemn Turkey’s suppression of its Kurdish minority. The protest comes amid tensions between Ankara and the Kurdistan Workers Party. Rights groups have warned about the growing civilian deaths in the Turkish army’s offensive in Kurdish regions.
