Palestinian teenager killed by Israeli forces in Gaza Strip

  • A Palestinian teenager has been shot dead by Israeli forces during protests in the Gaza Strip. The victim was identified as 18-year-old Mohammed Abu Zaida. Medics say 10 other Palestinian youths have been shot and wounded during the clashes. 159 Palestinians have been killed since October last year.
  • Russia urges warring sides in Syria to help the delivery of humanitarian aid into areas under siege by militants. The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed concern over the situation in Madaya, Fu'ah and Kafriya. It also said that Moscow has been co-operating with the Syrian government to help resolve the situation.
  • Indonesian police have identified four out of five terrorists who were killed in Thursday’s deadly attacks in Jakarta. Police said all their activities were funded by the Daesh Takfiri group. Two other assailants have already been arrested. Thursday's bombings and shootings left 2 civilians dead.
  • A drug trial in north-west France has left one person brain-dead and five others in critical condition. The French Health Minister said the volunteers were taking part in the trial by a European laboratory in the city of Rennes. The drug was a painkiller containing an active ingredient found in cannabis plants.
  • In Sierra Leone, a patient dies of Ebola after the World Health Organization declared the regional epidemic was over in West Africa. The health ministry said she was taken to hospital in the northern village of Bamoi Luma and died soon after. The victim potentially exposed 27 other people to the disease.
  • Militants from the al-Shabab terrorist group claim they have killed 61 Kenyan soldiers after attacking a military base in southern Somalia. The militants say the soldiers served as part of the African Union forces. They also claim to have taken over the base some 550 kilometers west of the capital, Mogadishu.
  • Asian stock markets tumble again amid concerns over China's stimulus measures and the falling oil prices. China's Shanghai index sank more than three and a half percent after trading high in the opening on Friday. Japan's Nikkei and South Korea's Kospi also erased gains losing more than one percent.
  • The US defense secretary admits that a navigational error has led two American combat vessels into Iranian waters in the Persian Gulf. Ash Carter also denied that the newly released sailors were on a covert mission. The Pentagon previously blamed the incident on mechanical trouble.
