JCPOA implementation to start this weekend

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi says the JCPOA implementation is expected to start this weekend.

  • Iran has freed ten American sailors it apprehended for entering the Islamic Republic’s territorial waters on two combat vessels. The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps has announced that the sailors were released in international waters. US Secretary of State John Kerry has thanked Iran for resolving the issue peacefully and efficiently. 
     
  • A senior Iranian official says the implementation of Tehran's historic nuclear deal with six world powers is expected to start this weekend. Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi says he expects the International Atomic Energy Agency to issue its final report on Iran’s fulfillment of its commitments under the deal by Friday.
     
  • In a phone conversation, US President Barack Obama and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin have called for easing of tensions between Iran and Saudi Arabia. Relations soured between the Tehran and Riyadh after the Saudis executed a prominent Shia cleric and a group of people attacked the Saudi Embassy in Iran. 
     
  • Swedish Foreign Minister, Margot Wallstrom, has called for a probe into the recent killing of Palestinians by Israelis. Angered by her comment, Tel Aviv summoned the Swedish ambassador. Israel’s Foreign Ministry described Wallstrom’s statement as incendiary and aggressive and said she’s not welcome in Israel.
     
  • Four more Saudi soldiers have been killed in the kingdom’s Jizan region in retaliatory attacks by the Yemeni army and allied Ansarullah fighters. There are also reports of casualties from Yemenis' rocket and artillery targeting of several other Saudi sites. The attacks are in response to Riyadh's continued bombing of Yemeni cities and towns.
     
  • The Turkish Interior Minister says the man behind Tuesday’s deadly bombing in the city of Istanbul had registered at an immigration office. Efkan Ala made the revelation in a joint press conference with his German counterpart, Thomas de Maiziere. Germany has confirmed the death of ten of its nationals in the attack.
     
  • Turkish police have detained nine protesters who were calling on the government to resign over Tuesday’s bomb attack in Istanbul. The protesters gathered in front of the UN office in Ankara to highlight growing insecurity in the country. They blamed the government for the death and injury of foreigners in Istanbul.
     
  • The European Commission Vice President has criticized EU countries for their slow response to the refugee crisis. Frans Timmermans says the mandatory plan initially agreed by EU countries needs changes to cope with some three-thousand refugees arriving in the bloc on a daily basis.
