ICRC concerned about Yemen hospital strikes
Here is a round-up of global news developments :
- The International Committee of the Red Cross says Saudi warplanes have targeted hospitals in Yemen, killing staff and wounding patients. The ICRC also noted that they are struggling to treat patients as drugs and medical supplies have been prevented from crossing front-lines into hospitals.
- Thousands of Yemeni people have rallied in the capital Sana’a to protest against the Saudi invasion of their country. They chanted anti-Saudi slogans and demanded the international community to stop Riyadh’s aggression that has left thousands of Yemeni people dead so far.
- Protesters in the Pakistani capital have held a rally urging Muslims worldwide not to remain silent on the execution of Sheikh Nimr. The protesters also called for the immediate release of leader of Nigeria's Islamic Movement Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zakzaki.
- Bahraini security forces have clashed with demonstrators voicing their anger at the execution of a top Shia cleric. Police fired tear gas to disperse the crowd in the village of Nuwaidrat. The tiny Persian Gulf kingdom has witnessed several protests in condemnation of Sheikh Nimr execution.
- Turkish security forces have raided the offices of the country’s main pro-Kurdish party in Istanbul. Several people from the Peoples’ Democratic Party were arrested in the operation. The raid came a few days after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said some of the party members were acting like terrorists.
- Egyptian troops have raided the positions of ISIL-affiliated terrorists in northeastern Sinai Peninsula, killing more than a dozen of them. The army has also arrested some terrorist suspects in the cities of Arish, Sheikh Zowayed, and Rafah.
- Belgian police have found the fingerprints of one the plotters behind the bombings in the French capital in November after searching an apartment in Brussels. Prosecutors say the apartment was likely used by fugitive Salah Abdelsalam to make bombs for the Paris attacks.
- The Ukrainian army says its positions have come under attack two dozen times in the east of the country over the past 24 hours. The military accuses pro-Russia militias of having violated the ceasefire on 24 occasions in Donbas since Thursday. The two sides agreed to halt hostilities two weeks ago.
