Ukraine advanced to the final of the Hopman Cup for their second time with a 2-1 win over Australia Gold in Perth. The tournament sees a national team of a man and a woman play individual singles then mixed doubles.
The home team needed to win the tie to stay alive, but Ukraine claimed both singles matches to ensure they finished the round-robin phase with three victories from their three ties. However, Elina Svitolina of Ukraine beat Jarmila Wolfe in straight sets 6-3 6-3 in the women's singles.
In the men's singles, Lleyton Hewitt of Australia, took the first set off Alexandr Dolgopolov. But the Ukrainian player won the second set and they were level pegging at 3-3 in the third set when Dolgopolov broke Hewitt's serve to go 4-3 ahead.
The pairing of Alexandr Dolgopolov and Elina Svitolina, who have both won all their singles matches this week, will play in Saturday's final.
