Trump to spend $2 mn a week on TV campaign ads

Billionaire Republican candidate Donald Trump

GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump says he plans to spend at least $2 million a week on television advertising in the three first-voting states.

The billionaire developer and former reality TV star told reporters on his private jet on Tuesday that he did not need to spend any money but could not afford to take things for granted.

“I don’t think I need to spend anything. And I’m very proud of the fact that I’ve spent the least and achieved the best result,” said the Republican front-runner. “I feel I should spend. And honestly I don’t want to take any chances.”

According to advertising tracker Kantar Media’s CMAG, Trump has not spent anything on TV ads yet but paid $300,000 for radio advertizing, way less than the amount spent by his rivals.

For example, former Florida governor Jeb Bush has so far spent more than $40 million.

“I’ll be spending a minimum of $2m a week and perhaps substantially more than that,” he told reporters, adding, “If somebody attacks me, I will attack them very much and very hard in terms of ads.”

Trump has been proud of funding his own campaign but, according to the Guardian, most of the money has been donated to the real estate mogul by his supporters.
