Iraqi forces take control of government complex in Ramadi

  1. Iraqi forces say they’ve taken control of the government complex in Ramadi. The compound was the last stronghold of Daesh terrorists in the city. The Iraqi army launched its offensive to recapture the center of Ramadi last Tuesday. The city was overrun by terrorists in May.
  2. Syrian forces have killed 17 militants after attacking their gathering in the southern Dara’a province. A U-K based monitoring group says the building where the militants were killed was booby trapped by the Syrian army. Several militant factions had gathered at the venue in the village of Kfar Shams.
  3. A Syrian activist, who produced documentaries against Daesh, has been assassinated in Turkey. Naji Jerf was killed in the province of Gazian-tep near the Syrian border. He belonged to a group of citizen journalists called “Raqa Is Being Slaughtered Silently.”
  4. The leader of Lebanon’s Resistance Movement says Israel plays a major role in all terrorist activities. Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah says the movement will fight Tel Aviv until it's defeated. The Hezbollah leader was speaking during a ceremony commemorating Hezbollah commander Samir Quntar who was killed in an Israeli airstrike last week.
  5. Israeli forces have shot dead two more Palestinians in the West Bank. Tel Aviv says Israeli forces opened fire and killed the two after a stabbing attack near Nablus. Two Israeli soldiers were also wounded. Another Palestinian was shot and wounded over an alleged knife attack in Jerusalem al-Quds.
  6. Fighting between pro-Russian forces and the Ukrainian army has left three people dead in the country’s east. A Ukrainian soldier and two civilians were killed in the village of Zaitseve, north of Donetsk. The clashes are the first violation of a New Year ceasefire.
  7. Mexicans have once again taken to the streets of Mexico City to call for the government’s explanation on the fate of 43 students who went missing last year. Police allegedly detained the students before turning them over to a drug cartel which killed them.
  8. Days of severe weather have led to 29 deaths across a number of U-S states. In Texas, 11 people lost their lives as tornadoes swept through the Dallas area. The storms left dozens of people injured and caused substantial material damage. People have been warned of more showers and thunderstorms.
