Sanctions harm US more than Russia: Analyst

Press TV has conducted an interview with Peter Koenig, a geopolitical analyst from Lima, to discuss a statement by the US Treasury Department updating its previous sanctions on more than two dozen Russian individuals and entities over the Ukraine crisis.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview:

Press TV: It does not come as a surprise that the US extended its sanctions against Moscow, however, what kind of counter-measures do you think Moscow is going to take ?

Koenig: As I have said many times before, Washington simply cannot let it go. These sanctions really have nothing to do with reality. These sanctions are used for propaganda purposes. Russia and especially Mr. Putin must remain the villain in the view of the Western world which is mercilessly subjective to lies and faults time after time and again. So Washington also has no interest in peace and good relations with Russia. These sanctions just show the farce and the hypocrisy behind Mr. Kerry’s recent trip to Moscow when he asked like a well-behaved little boy wanting to cooperate in the fight against Daesh.

For those who do not know yet, the Islamic State is the true creation by the US military and the CIA and is entirely supported by the US, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and of course Turkey. They were trained by the CIA and NATO. The reason for these new sanctions being again Ukraine and all of those especially Europeans are still blinded by the facts and belief that Russia is behind the Ukraine crisis, they should know that it was in fact a long preparation by the US State Department that brought about the coup in February 2014 which putsched (removed) the democratically elected president and installed a fascist government.

Press TV: Do you think the EU and Washington have not factored in Russia’s response. Do you think they actually believe that they can reach their goals by pressuring and bullying Russia?

Koenig: I truly believe that the EU knows that they cannot achieve anything that they have already shown in the first round of these sanctions that the US suffered much more than the Russians have, but I think what people must know is that the EU and the European countries are not free countries. Most of the politicians maybe do not know that the mastermind behind the built-to-fail ...of the European Union is the United States. They have started this process in 1948 with the "Brussels Treaty" and have continued sponsoring it up to the "Lisbon Treaty" which is now the ruling document of the so-called European Union, but those in the European Union know that they are not free. They know that basically Brussels is totally in the hands of the United States, they have suffered before and they will suffer again. So, I don't think that the people know, hopefully many are listening to your broadcast and investigate themselves, but this is a total farce and it is clear that Brussels acts on the way they have acted because they are totally in the hands of Washington. They are not free.
