Iran condemns Qantar assassination as Israeli 'state terrorism'

Iran has condemned Israel’s killing in Syria of Samir Qantar, a senior member of the Lebanese resistance movement of Hezbollah, as another act of "state terrorism" by the Tel Aviv regime.

The Islamic Republic’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Hossein Jaberi Ansari, on Sunday hailed the martyr as “the quintessence of resistance against the Zionist regime (Israel)’s occupation and aggression,” referring to the killing as the most recent example of organized and institutionalized state terrorism committed by the regime.

According to local media reports, Qantar was killed during an Israeli airstrike that targeted his home near the Syrian capital, Damascus, earlier in the day. The airstrike also killed 10 Syrian nationals and injured a number of other civilians.

Qantar was released from an Israeli prison during a prisoner swap between Hezbollah and Israel in 2008 after serving 29 years in detention.

Referring to Qantar’s killing, Jaberi Ansari said such measures on the part of the Israeli regime, “the most dangerous type of state terrorism,” had turned into a trend, and urged international bodies to condemn such acts so that the international community’s determination to fight terrorism does not wane as a result of Tel Aviv’s acts of terrorism.

He also said the bloodshed was a clear example of the violation of a UN member’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
