Press TV has interviewed Ibrahim Mousawi, a political commentator in Beirut, about the Israel regime carrying out an airstrike on a residential area near the Syrian capital city of Damascus, reportedly killing Samir Qantar, a high ranking member of the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah.
The following is a rough transcription of the interview.
Press TV: Let’s start off with your thoughts on the recent assassination of Lebanese resistance fighter Samir Qantar by the Israeli regime.
Mousawi: Well of course this is something we expected. Ever since Samir gained the freedom after the 2006 war, before that time and then after all of the attempts against his life by the Israelis, now they have been able to successfully assassinate him but we know very well that this is not going to be the last assassination for the freedom fighter against the Israeli side. We know very well this is something that Samir has been longing for, for a long time. He has been expecting it at any moment. Here you are talking about a Mujahid that has committed his life, that has dedicated his life, he is completely devoted to the cause of Palestine, to the cause of the liberation, to the cause of fighting against the Israeli enemy occupation.
So it is no surprise to anyone who knows Samir, to anyone who knows what kind of enemy we have when it comes to the Israeli side. We should have expected this long time ago and now Samir is a martyr. When we talk about Samir, everybody who has followed him up, who knows who is Samir, he has been … the longest time term in prison, in the Israeli prisons and now he is a martyr. He has always been a freedom fighter. He has always been committed and devotee for the cause of Palestine, so this is the fate that he has accepted, that he wanted. Maybe we have to congratulate him, maybe he is in heaven now and we know very well as long as this Ummah is able to produce people and cadres like Samir, then it is going to be in good hands and good shape as long as we are committed to the cause, as long as we are committed to sacrifice for our causes.
Press TV: And what is also puzzling and alarming is that in such acts the Israeli regime hardly ever has to answer for its crimes?
Mousawi: If we want to start about counting the Israeli crimes we cannot finish actually in a near time. We can alter volumes of things about the Israeli crimes. Here another crime has been done by the Israeli side and I believe here you have to talk about the people, the people will, determination, resolve. Here you want to talk about the Palestinian people in Palestine, the Palestinian people outside, the people who are committed to the cause of justice and liberation, equality, dignity.
Those who want to hold up all the important values of human kind, they are committed to holding the Israelis responsible for their crimes and there will be a time when the Israelis will be held responsible when it comes to the Mujahedin, to the fighters, to the resistance on ground, they are always building up their capabilities, they are doing everything possible in order to counter the attack of the Israelis and the offensive of the Israelis but we have to think about a lot of ways where we could raise awareness, where we could bring the governments into their responsibilities so they can take action against the Israeli side.
