Iran’s President Rouhani to visit France end January: Hollande

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani will pay an official visit to France at the end of January after an earlier trip to the country was cancelled, his French counterpart Francois Hollande says.

Hollande said on Friday that he would host Rouhani after planned trips by the Iranian president to three European destinations, including France, was called off following a spate of terror attacks in the French capital, Paris, which left some 130 people dead on November 13.

Rouhani was scheduled to set off for Rome in Italy on November 14 at the head of a high-ranking delegation. He was also slated to pay a one-day visit to the Vatican on the next day. The Iranian president was then set to address the UNESCO Leaders’ Forum as a special guest at the organization’s headquarters in Paris on November 16, and hold talks with Hollande in the French capital a day later.
