Leaders stress right to defend Iraq against Turkish troops

  1. All Iraqi leaders have issued a joint statement stressing the country’s right to use all legitimate means to protect its sovereignty against Turkey's recent deployment of troops near the Iraqi city of Mosul. The statement also expresses support for the Iraqi army to defend the country against any foreign aggression.
  2. Russia's foreign minister says Turkey’s troop deployment to northern Iraq is an unlawful incursion. Sergei Lavrov added that Moscow strongly supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq. Lavrov made the remarks during a phone conversation with Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Ja’afari.
  3. Nearly 200 nations have adopted a deal to slow global warming, following two weeks of intense negotiations at the Paris Summit. The pact limits the rise in global temperatures to less than two degrees Celsius. The agreement is partly legally binding and partly voluntary.
  4. Environmental activists have staged protests in the French capital Paris to draw attention to the adverse effects of global warming. They also called for an end to the use of oil, gas and coal. The demonstrations coincide with the end of the Paris climate summit.
  5. A car bomb has ripped through the Syrian western city of Homs, killing 16 people and injuring over a hundred others. The bomb went off near a hospital in al-Zahra neighborhood. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
  6. Nigerian security forces have opened fire on mourners at a funeral ceremony in the city of Zaria. At least seven Shia Muslims were reportedly killed and several others injured. The shooting came during a funeral for the victims of recent Boko Haram attacks.
  7. The Pakistani army says at least 34-hundred terrorists have been killed in the North Waziristan tribal area over the past 18 months. Nearly 490 Pakistani soldiers have also died during exchanges of fire with the terrorists. North Waziristan borders neighboring Afghanistan and has been a hotbed of militant activity.
