The UK and Russia have agreed to work together in the fight against the ISIL militants also known as Daesh in Syria.

Downing Street said in a statement that British Prime Minsiter David Cameron and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by the phone on Britain’s military action in Syria.

The two sides agreed their countries should work together in the fight against ISIL, but Downing Street gave few details on how his greater co-operation would work in practice.

Cameron and Putin said they needed to implement agreements already made, and work to a timeline for the establishment of a transitional Syrian government within six months, followed by presidential elections.

The UK carried out its first bombing of Daesh positions in Syria last week after the government won a parliamentary debate on an air campaign against the Takfiri militant group there.

The move followed a 10-hour debate held on last Wednesday, with some 397 MPs voting in favor of the plan while 223 voted against the UK extending its airstrikes on Daesh targets from Iraq into Syria.
