Trump’s anti-Muslim remarks incite violence: Analyst

Press TV has conducted an interview with Cyrus McGoldrick, the founder of Muslim Renaissance Group, in Istanbul, and Michael Lane, the president of the American Institute for Foreign Policy, in Washington, to discuss Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s recent anti-Muslim remarks.

McGoldrick says Trump’s remarks are normalizing a rhetoric that is “outlandish, ugly, and hateful,” adding that they are inciting violence.

“We are hearing that there are rising numbers of hate crimes and threats against Muslims and Muslim institutions in the US and Europe,” he says.

The analyst says these remarks are distracting the attention away from the “discriminatory” policies of the countries they are being made in.

“Under the Obama administration, for example, wars have continued, even expanded into other fronts that we were not aware of before. Torture and indefinite detention is ongoing, surveillance of Muslims, of Muslim institutions is already instituted, it has already become normalized,” he says.

Lane, for his part, believes that Donald Trump “is doing some damage” as a leading candidate and predicts that he will not be elected president of the United States.
