1. Turkey says it will not withdraw its soldiers from northern Iraq despite Baghdad’s 48-hour deadline. Ankara claims the troops were deployed to train forces fighting against Daesh terrorists. Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi however says the soldiers have entered the country illegally because the deployment happened without Baghdad’s consent.
2. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump says all Muslims must be denied entry to the United States of America. The White House however says Trump’s comments are contrary to the national security interests. Council on American-Islamic Relations also noted that the remarks insinuate fascist ideologies.
3. An arson attack on a refugee camp in the German state of Thuringia has left at least ten asylum seekers, including a baby, injured. The camp houses 70 refugees from Syria, Afghanistan and Somalia. Refugee camps in Germany have been attacked nearly 500 times in 2015.
4. Russian media say a bomb explosion at a bus station in the capital Moscow has left at least three people injured. Emergency crews have been deployed to the scene to help the injured. Police officials are currently investigating the incident.
5. The Palestinian Authority Committee for Prisoners' Affairs says over 500 Palestinians are in Israeli jails without trial or charge. The committee also blasted the practice of administrative detention, saying it violates international law. The measure allows imprisonment without trial for six-month periods that are indefinitely renewable.
6. The United Nations has appealed for over 20 billion dollars for humanitarian aid in 2016. The funding would go toward helping over 90 million people in 37 different regions and countries. UN Aid Chief Stephen O'Brien says sufferings in the world have reached levels not seen since the Second World War.
7. Peruvian police have arrested an American man for running a child sex trafficking ring outside the capital Lima over the past ten years. Police also rescued eleven victims aged between four and 17 during the operation which led to the arrest of Joshua Brown along with five accomplices.
8. Iran says the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Board of Governors should close Iran’s so-called PMD case after the agency’s latest report. Senior nuclear negotiator Abbas Araqchi is in Vienna to discuss a draft resolution that is set to be discussed at the IAEA meeting on Demeter 15th.
