Press TV has interviewed Richard Becker, with the ANSWER Coalition, in San Francisco, and Frederick Peterson, a senior Congressional defense adviser, in Richmond, on the deployment of up to 100 US special operations troops to Iraq.

Becker says the deployment is “clearly against the interest and the sentiment of the great majority of the people” in Iraq.

The United States has shown no respect for the sovereignty of any country that it has wanted to target, he says, adding that the new deployment has been decided “without consultation with the Iraqi government” and the US move has caused “great anger” inside Iraq.

Becker says the US policy toward Iraq has had a devastating impact upon the Iraqis over the last 25 years.

“Iraq is a prime example of… war based on falsification of so-called intelligence followed by invasion and occupation,” the political expert says, adding that the invasion has resulted in “millions of casualties when you add together all those killed, wounded and displaced in this war.”

Peterson, for his part, believes the deployment of around 100 troops to Iraq “will do very little” and seems to be a “seashell in a desert,” adding that the measure is aimed at pacifying domestic political concerns.
