German lawmakers have approved the country’s military mission against ISIL in Syria.
Germany’s mission in Syria will be non-combat, and is to help the fight against Daesh. The mission includes sending reconnaissance jets and a frigate. Up to 1,200 troops will be deployed. The two Tornado reconnaissance jets will be sent to a Turkish air base as early as next week. The frigate is already en route to join a French aircraft carrier. The parliamentary approval comes in response to a call by France for support following Paris terror attacks that killed some 130 people in mid-November. ISIL claimed the Paris carnage, promising to launch more attacks.
