German cabinet approves mandate to join military campaign against Daesh in Syria

The German cabinet has approved a mandate to join the military campaign against the ISIL in Syria.

The package offers military assistance to France, which includes surveillance planes, a naval frigate and up to 1200 troops. The one year mandate, which needs a parliamentary approval, will cost Germany 134 million euros. The plan was proposed after Chancellor Angela Merkel pledged to support the fight against terrorism, in reaction to the deadly Paris attacks in early November.
