Press TV has interviewed Scott Rickard, a former US intelligence linguist from Orlando, and Jonathan Fryer, a writer and broadcaster from London, to discuss Washington's support for terrorist groups such as Daesh (ISIL).
Rickard says the objective of the West, NATO and certain regional states has, from the beginning, been the overthrow of the Syrian government and that the alliance brought in “international mercenaries” to weaken President Bashar al-Assad, but they failed to reach the goal.
The Frankenstein-type mercenaries have gotten out of the hands of the Western powers and their regional allies; therefore, the alliance tries to contain and bring the mercenaries under control, he argues.
Pointing to Russia’s direct involvement in the Syria war, he maintains, “Certainly the Russians are making a much greater effort and I think what the West has really been put in a position here, is they are just trying to save face, because the Russians have actually brought ISIS (ISIL) to its knees in a matter of less than two months.”
Fryer, for his part, said the foreign negotiators involved in the Syria peace talks have reached the consensus that all parties should participate in future negotiations; although, there are some fundamental differences on the fate of the war-torn nation.
He adds that the regional and foreign participants of the Syria peace talks have underlined that they should deal with the problem of the Daesh Takfiri terrorist organization, which is wreaking havoc in Syria.
America and one or two of other Western countries plan to save their face in the Syrian conflict, because the West is aware that Russia has seized the initiative through direct intervention on the ground, he concluded.
