Iranian cyclists earn nine medals in Track Asia Cup

Iranian male and female cyclists have ended their campaign at the 2015 Track Asia Cup in India, and managed to receive five medals, among them three gold ones.

On Friday, Iran’s Fatemeh Hadavand competed against rivals from various countries in the women’s 200-meter race distance event at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex’s indoor cycling velodrome in the Indian capital city of New Delhi, and picked up the silver medal. A representative from the host nation stood on the top podium.

Ali Aliasgari also vied for a medal in the men’s 200-meter race distance competitions, and clinched the silver.

Additionally, Mohammad Daneshvar and Ali Aliasgari were awarded a gold and silver medal respectively in the Keirin form.

Iran’s Forouzan Abdollahi managed to receive the top honor in the women’s 2,000-meter race distance event on Thursday, and got the gold medal.

Pouriya Hosseini also took part in the men’s 3,000-meter race distance contests, and earned a bronze medal for the Islamic Republic of Iran.

On Wednesday, the opening day of the Asian cycling tournament, Iran men’s cycling squad of Mohammad Daneshvar, Ali Aliasgari and Farshid Farsinejadian won gold in the team sprint event.

The Iranian outfit of Parastou Baasti and Fatemeh Hadavand also participated in the women’s team sprint competitions, and stood on the bronze podium.

Abdollahi also earned the bronze medal in stiff women’s 500-meter race distance contests.

The 2015 Track Asia Cup started in the Indian capital city of New Delhi on November 18, and concluded on November 20.

More than 150 cyclists from 10 countries, namely Bangladesh, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Nepal, South Korea, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan, vied for top honors during the three-day sporting event. 

The tournament served as a warm-up for Iranian male and female cyclists ahead of the 2016 Asian Cycling Championships, which are scheduled to be held at Izu Velodrome in the central Japanese city of Izu between January 19 and January 30.
