Press TV has conducted an interview with Webster Griffin Tarpley, an author and historian from Washington, to get his take on the unanimous approval of France’s proposal for the fight against the Daesh Takfiri group at the UN Security Council.
The following is a rough transcription of the interview.
Press TV: There were two drafts that were proposed one by Russia and the other by France. What differences did they have in nature? And why was France’s text adopted?
Tarpley: I think the key to that is that the Russian resolution was broader and more inclusive and would have provided, I think, a better basis, but the French resolution has now been approved.
And I think a lot can be done with that. In particular, France is now energized obviously because of these terrorist attacks attributed to ISIS (Daesh).
And I think that’s likely to stand up as the real source. So, the French are now for example telling the US and Russia that they must cooperate.
And Holland is on a diplomatic offensive, he’s going to be here in Washington next week on November 24 and after that he’ll be in Moscow on November 26.
So, the idea is a grand alliance against Daesh, ISIS, ISIL and that I think is a very inclusive proposition.
It also converges with the fact that the Russian diplomatic view for many months now a year at least has been precisely the same thing, a grand alliance of the powers of the world against this terrorist monstrosity.
So, I actually hope that will bear a fruit. The problem you’re going to get is a group here in the United States. It’s the Petraeus-Allen Clique, Allen of course was the guy, who was the ISIS czar here in Washington.
In your previous talk with your previous guest the question is “why was the US bombing so impotent, why didn’t it accomplish?” I think.
Because the Petraeus-Allen Clique in this factionalized government with the weak president that we have, they were successful in blocking it. So that nothing much was done.
But now that could change right and it’s also a powerful incentive to keep up with Russia not to lose face. So that the US can still maintain some kind of influence.
I would point to one hopeful sign, which is the fact that the American public is becoming aware of the treachery of the Saudis and of Turkey in supporting ISIS.
Three exhibit if you like: One is Hillary Clinton’s Foreign Policy speech. I don’t like what she says, but she does go out of a way to blame Saudi Arabia and Turkey for this situation that they support terrorism, they collude with terrorism.
Secondly, the New York Times today prints an update, which essentially equates Saudi Arabia and Daesh. They say Saudi Arabia is a Daesh that has made it. It’s a Daesh or ISIS that has succeeded. They’re better dressed and they’re neater, but they do the same things. That’s number two.
Number three, earlier this week on Fox News we had Geraldo Rivera [American attorney, reporter, author, and talk show host] telling the right-wing audience of Fox News that Saudi Arabia and Turkey are enemies of the United States and Russia is actually a friend.
So, I think this is beginning to clear the view of what reality looks like and the collusion of Saudi Arabia and Turkey are simply indispensable to having ISIS in the way that we have it today.
