Iran handball team defeats Oman in Olympic qualifying tournament

Iran men’s national handball team has defeated the Omani squad in its first qualifying match at the 2015 Asian Qualification Tournament for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics, which are scheduled to be held in Brazil next year.

On Saturday evening, the Iranian side exhibited an admirable show of skills and strength during a competitive game played at the al-Dhil sports hall in the Qatari capital city of Doha, and edged out the Omanis 39-31.

Iran national handball team will return to action on November 16, when it takes on Uzbekistan in its second Rio Olympic qualifier.

The 2015 Asian Qualification Tournament for the 2016 Summer Olympics started in Doha, Qatar, on November 14 and will finish on November 27.

Australia, Bahrain, China, Iraq, Kuwait and South Korea are in Group A of the Asian qualifying games.

Iran has been drawn in Group B along with Japan, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan.

The handball tournaments at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro will be held from August 6 to 21 at the Olympic Training Center.
