Syria talks should not focus on ousting Assad: Russian FM

1. Yemen's Ansarullah fighters and allied army unites have killed two Saudi soldiers in a retaliatory attack on the kingdom's Jizan region. Meanwhile, Saudi warplanes targeted the province of Ma'rib and injured several civilians. More than 7,100 Yemenis have been killed since Riyadh started its military aggression in late March.

2. The Syrian army has managed to repel a large-scale assault by foreign-backed militants north of the capital Damascus. The army earlier forced Daesh Takfiri terrorists out of a strategic region east of the city of Aleppo. The government troops have recently gained more ground in the fight against terrorists.

3. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has warned that the next round of talks on Syria must not focus on calls for President Bashar al-Assad's resignation. Speaking on a trip to Armenia, Lavrov said the Vienna meeting must instead focus on lists separating terrorists and the Syrian opposition.

4. In Bahrain, anti-government protesters pour into the streets in several villages calling for the immediate release of political prisoners including top opposition figure sheikh Ali Salman. They also condemned Manama’s harsh crackdown on human rights activists. Ruling Al-Khalifah regime forces have been suppressing the protesters since 2011.

5. Eurogroup President Jeroen Dijsselbloem says the next loans for Greece can be released for bank recapitalization once Athens implements the agreed reforms. Dijsselbloem made the comments after a meeting of bloc’s finance ministers in Brussels ended with Athens failing to convince its creditors for the money.

6. British Prime Minister David Cameron warns the European Union leaders that he would back a decision to leave the bloc if it fails to comply with London's demands. Cameron will publish his negotiating demands Tuesday in a letter to European Council President Donald Toosk.

7. A group of protesters gather outside the White House to condemn Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to the United States. The demonstrators called on the government to cut aid to Tel Aviv. The protest came before Netanyahu sat down for talks with US President Barack Obama.

8. Official preliminary results from Myanmar's national elections show opposition leader Aung San Suu-Chi’s National League for Democracy has won nearly 90 percent of parliament seats. Earlier on Monday, the acting chair of Myanmar's military-backed ruling Union Solidarity Development party conceded defeat.
