Iran's Foreign Ministry appoints new spokesman

Iran’s new Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossein Jaberi Ansari

Iran’s new Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossein Jaberi Ansari will officially assume office.

Ansari replaces Marzieh Afkham, who was in the position since September 2013, following the presidential election that saw Hassan Rouhani taking office at the helm of the executive branch of the Iranian government.

On October 28, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif picked Ansari, who had served as Iran’s ambassador to Beirut and the ministry’s director general for the Middle East and North Africa.

Afkham, a career diplomat, is also scheduled to move to Malaysia to become Iran’s first female ambassador after the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
