Brazil’s minister of development, industry and foreign trade is to arrive in the Iranian capital on an official visit tomorrow to explore ways of bolstering economic relations between Tehran and Brasilia.

According to Iranian media, Armando Monteiro will be accompanied by a delegation representing various economic sectors of the Latin American country.

Monteiro’s accompanying delegation will consist of officials from Brazil’s chamber of commerce, central bank, economic officials of Brazilian Foreign Ministry as well as 35 businesspeople and economic activists.

During his three-day stay in Iran, the Brazilian minister is scheduled to meet and confer with Iranian foreign minister, energy minister, minister of economic affairs and finance, as well as minister of industry, mine and trade.

Monteiro will also meet with officials of Iran's central bank and private banks to discuss ways of boosting economic relations between the two countries.

Strengthening relations between Tehran and Brasilia in such areas as foreign trade, energy, banking, agriculture and investment has been mentioned as the main goal of Monteiro’s Tehran visit.

A conference dubbed “opportunities for cooperation between Iran and Brazil” will be also held during Monteiro’s visit to Iran, which will be attended by the two countries’ ministers of industry in addition to a large number of Iranian and Brazilian companies active in various industrial fields such as foodstuff, nanotechnology, aerospace, telecommunications and machinery.

Brazil is currently the world’s seventh largest economy, which is a member of the BRICS group of emerging powers that also includes Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

Brasilia is also Tehran’s most important economic partner in Latin America and the volume of bilateral trade amounts to about USD 1.6 billion a year.

Meat, sugar and maize are Brazil’s most important export goods to Iran, which in return exports carpets, raisins, and petrochemical products to Brazil.
