4 dead, 13 injured in Chicago weekend shootings

Four people have been shot to death and over a dozen others injured in shootings across the US city of Chicago this weekend, authorities say.

A man was fatally shot in the latest shooting on Saturday afternoon in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side, Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Officers were responding to a call of shots fired about 4:50 p.m. in the 5300 block of South Union when they found Fredrick Dockery, 23, unresponsive with gunshot wounds to the abdomen and neck.

He was taken to the hospital, but was pronounced dead at 5:40 p.m., authorities said.

A 45-year-old woman was also gunned down in Little Village on the Southwest Side on the same day.

Maria Moreno was walking with another person in the 2500 block of South Harding at around 12:30 a.m. when she was shot in the chest, according to police and the medical examiner’s office.

Police said she was rushed to Saint Anthony Hospital, where she died at 12:58 a.m. 

Also on Friday night, a man, 43, was shot in the head when he was outside in the North Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

A gunman walked up and opened fire, shooting at the man, who was hospitalized in Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:27 p.m.

And a teenage boy was inside a home in the 5100 block of North Austin when he was shot in the head about 3 p.m., authorities said.

He was rushed to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, but died at 3:21 a.m. Saturday.

In other shooting incidents on Friday and Saturday, at least 13 people were shot and wounded in Chicago.

The United States has experienced more than one mass shooting a day in 2015, with 10,746 people dead and 21,865 others injured so far this year.
