Iranian Greco-Roman wrestlers have mounted convincing displays of gripping skills and might at the Bolat Turlykhanov Memorial 2015 in Kazakhstan, picking up four medals.
Iranian athlete Mojtaba Karimfar overcame Russia’s Konstantin Efimov 8-0 in his opening round contest of men’s 85-kilogram weight category in the eastern Kazakh city of Semey, located 626 kilometers (389 miles) east of the capital, Astana, on October 11, Mehr news agency reported on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old prevailed over his Kazakh rival Sanzhar Bagashar 8-0 in the next encounter to march into the semifinal round.
Karimfar defeated another wrestler from the host nation by 8 points to 0 in the semifinal, and booked the ticket for the final.
He was downed by his Kazakh opponent Nursultan Tursunov in the last encounter and collected the silver medal.
In the 130-kilogram category, Iran’s Amir Ghasemi Monjazi lost to Nurmakhan Tinaliev from Kazakhstan and claimed a silver medal.
Iranian Greco-Roman wrestlers Ramin Taheri and Mehdi Zoudashena also snatched bronze medals in the 75-kilogram and 98-kilogram weight divisions.
The Bolat Turlykhanov Memorial 2015 opened in the Kazakh city of Semey on October 9 and wrapped up on October 11.
Dozens of Greco-Roman wrestlers from various countries, including Azerbaijan, China, Georgia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Russia and Ukraine, took part in the tournament.
