Thousands gather at funerals of Turkey bomb victims, chant anti-govt. slogans

Thousands of people in the Turkish towns of Tunceli and Suruc have attended the funerals of several victims of deadly twin bomb blasts in Ankara. The mourners chanted slogans, blaming the state for failing to prevent Saturday’s attack which left some 100 people dead.

The protesters condemned the bombing, which occurred during the peace rally by pro-Kurdish and leftist activists. Anger was already high in the predominantly-Kurdish town of Suruc, which was the scene of a similar bombing in July. Meanwhile, people marched through Istanbul and Ankara to condemn the attack, with many venting their anger at the government. Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has rejected accusations that the government was to blame for Ankara’s attack. No group has claimed responsibility for Ankara’s bombing yet.
