Iran’s national volleyball team has suffered its first loss at the first round of the 2015 Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) World Cup in Japan, going down to powerful South American giants Argentina.

On Tuesday, the Argentines picked up a convincing victory over the Iranian squad and won the match played at the Hamamatsu Arena in the western Japanese city of Hamamatsu 3-1 (25-27, 25-22, 25-22, and 26-24).

The Iranians started the game with vim and vigor, but Argentinean volleyball players could establish themselves shortly afterwards and brought the game under control.

The Argentine side later built up pressure on Iranians, and drew level at 12-12. The South Americans then surged ahead and widened the gap by 21 points to 15.

Iran finally managed to recover from the pressure that the Argentinean outfit was applying, and won the set 27-25.

The brisk pace of the match continued into the second set, and Argentina’s force saw the Persians slip behind the South American team. However, the Iranians could recover and secured a 13-13 draw. Argentines eventually took the set 25-22.
