Iranian middleweight and heavyweight boxers have exhibited awe-inspiring displays of strength and talent at the 2015 ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Thailand, and managed to secure places at the forthcoming AIBA World Boxing Championships in Qatar.
Iran’s middleweight boxer Reza Moradkhani proved too strong for China’s Yu Fengkai in the men’s 91-kilogram weight class on Tuesday, overpowering his 20-year-old opponent in a bout held at the Thanasat 6 University in the Thai capital city of Bangkok.
Earlier in the day, ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships bronze medalist Sajjad Mehrabi had shined in the 75-kilogram weight category to earn Iran’s first spot in the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Forutan Golara and Amin Ghasemipour faltered in matches on Tuesday, missing out on the chance to qualify for the world championships, which will take place next month.
The ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships started in Bangkok, Thailand, on August 26 and will wrap on September 5.
A total of 188 boxers from 28 countries, including China, Iran and Kazakhstan, are competing in the tournament. China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, South Korea, Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan are the countries that are attending the event with the maximum number of ten boxers.
The participants are seeking berths to the prestigious AIBA World Championships in Doha, Qatar, which will run from October 5 to 15. The Doha games will serve as a qualifying tournament to the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
