Thai police search for 2nd suspect in Bangkok bombing

Police in Thailand say they are now searching for a second suspect in investigations into a deadly bombing attack in the capital, Bangkok, two weeks ago, which killed 20 people.

On Monday, Thai officials said they were searching for a 26-year-old Thai woman identified as Wanna Suansan, who is suspected of being involved in the bombing that targeted the Erawan shrine.

Thailand’s national police spokesman Prawut Thavornsiri showed a picture of the woman on television, saying she is thought to have cooperated with a foreign suspect detained earlier.

According to Prawut, the two suspects had rented an apartment where explosive equipment was discovered during a raid on the property.

"We found fertilizer bags, watches, radio controls -- parts to make bombs and electric charges," the police spokesman said.

Following the deadly explosion on August 17, police launched an operation to arrest a man wearing a yellow T-Shirt who had been captured on security cameras that showed him leaving a bag at the area moments before the explosion.

On Saturday, Thai officials confirmed that the suspect detained was a Turkish national. He is currently being held in military custody.

Thailand has been witnessing unrest since its powerful generals took the law into their own hands in a May 2014 coup following the ouster of former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s government, which had faced months of protests.
