The Syrian information minister says resistance media outlets are engaged in a battle to counter the spread of false news about Syria.
Omran al-Zoubi made the remarks on Saturday, when visiting Mohammad Hassan Hosseini, a field correspondent of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) who was critically injured in a recent mortar attack by militants in Syria's western city of Latakia.
Zoubi said the “resistance media” are working to spread the truth about the developments in Syria and expose the lies disseminated by malicious media outlets.
The Syrian information minister, who was accompanied by Iranian Ambassador to Damascus Mohammad Reza Sheibani, visited the Iranian reporter in Latakia’s Darraj Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
Zoubi said the Syrian and Iranian media are cooperating closely to relay the truth about the crimes committed by the Israeli regime and Takfiri terrorist groups in the region.
A number of correspondents affiliated to Iranian news services have already fallen victim to the conflict in Syria, among them Press TV correspondent Maya Naser, who was killed in September 2012 in the capital, Damascus.
The Iranian ambassador, who was visiting Hosseini as well, commented on the war imposed on Syria and the region, saying the campaign is not only of a military nature, but also cultural, economic, and political, and it is targeting media as well.
Hosseini, the Iranian journalist, also expressed determination to keep working toward revealing the truth about the developments in Syria, adding that he has been inspired by the sacrifices that the Syrian media and journalists have made in this regard.
The foreign-sponsored conflict in Syria, which began in March 2011, has reportedly claimed more than 240,000 lives so far.
The United Nations says the militancy has displaced more than 7.2 million Syrians internally, and compelled over four million others to take refuge in neighboring countries, including Jordan and Lebanon.
