Russia: NATO center in Georgia provocative

Germany

Russia says the opening of a NATO training center in Georgia is provocative.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova adds that the deployment of such a military facility will only destabilize the regional security. NATO opened the joint training and evaluation center at a military base outside Tbilisi on Thursday. Georgia hopes the development could help it move closer to membership in the Western military alliance. But Moscow considers this move as another sign of NATO expansion. The alliance has boosted its military presence in Eastern Europe since the start of the Ukrainian crisis in late 20-13. It says the advances toward Russian borders are in response to Moscow's support for anti-Kiev forces; something Russia rejects systematically.
