‘Mass annihilation’ in case of war between two Koreas: Lendman

US imperial policies that seek to extend Washington’s global influence have made the Korean peninsula rife with conflict.

An American political analyst has warned that “mass annihilation” would happen should South Korea and North Korea start a nuclear war.

Stephen Lendman, an author and radio host in Chicago, said US imperial policies that seek to extend Washington’s global influence have made the Korean peninsula and other regions of the world rife with conflict and tension.

“Korea, like many other spots in the world, remains a tinderbox because of US imperial policies,” he said.

“We could see wars break out anywhere because of America’s absolute maniacal quest to rule the world,” Lendman told Press TV on Tuesday.

Lendman said the Korean War, which lasted from 1950 until 1953, “was a war of aggression” by the US against North Korea.

South Korea and the US are holding large-scale war games amid heightened tensions in the divided Korean peninsula.

The annual military drill, known as the Ulchi Freedom Guardian, runs from August 17 to 28 and involves 30,000 American troops alongside 50,000 South Korean soldiers.

North Korea alleges that the military drills are a precursor to a war planned against Pyongyang.

Tensions have been rising between North and South Korea since the two countries exchanged artillery fire Thursday.

The Korean peninsula has been locked in a cycle of military tensions since the Korean War ended in an armistice. No peace deal has been signed since then, meaning that Pyongyang and Seoul remain technically at war.
