Saudi Arabia has bombarded several areas in Yemen, killing tens of people in airstrikes on the province of Hudaydah.
According to local media outlets, the people were killed on Wednesday after Saudi warplanes bombarded restaurants and shops in the district of ad Dahi in Hudaydah in western Yemen. Reports said that many others sustained injuries in the deadly Saudi bombardment.
The Saudi fighter jets also bombarded a military base in the province of Ma’rib as many as 19 times. There is no report yet on the casualties or damage caused by the attack.
The Saudi warplanes also bombarded the district of Harad in the northwestern Yemeni province of Hajjah.
At least 9 people, including children and women, had also been killed in Saudi attacks on Hudaydah on Tuesday. Saudi Arabia also conducted airstrikes on a residential area in the northwestern Yemeni province of Amran on Tuesday, killing at least 19 people.
Saudi warplanes also pounded several positions in the Yemeni provinces of Sa’ada and Abyan on the same day.
In retaliation for the deadly Saudi attacks, the Yemeni forces backed by Ansarullah fighters and Popular Committees targeted a number of Saudi military bases in the southwestern Saudi province of Jizan.
Saudi Arabia launched its aggression against Yemen on March 26 – without a UN mandate – in an effort to undermine Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah movement and to restore power to the country’s fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a staunch ally of Riyadh.
The United Nations says the conflict in Yemen has killed more than 4,000 people, nearly half of them civilians, since late March. Local Yemeni sources, however, say the fatality figure is much higher.
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) said around 400 children have been killed and 600 others sustained injuries in Yemen since March 26.
