Iranian male and female karate fighters have demonstrated awe-inspiring displays of skills at the second So-kyokushin International Karate tournament in Iran to stand atop the podium.
On Friday, Iranian sportsmen landed in the first position of chart at Ohishi Cup after earning 25 gold, 26 silver and 27 bronze medals at the end of the three-day competitions at Imam Khomeini sports hall in the western Iranian city of Kermanshah.
Zimbabweans finished as the runner-up at the sports event, bagging one gold medal and a silver.
Iraqi karate fighters claimed one silver and two bronze medals to come third.
Moreover, Iranian female karate practitioners clinched the victory of the women’s competitions, which were staged at Kermanshah’s Shahid Beheshti sports hall, with ten gold medals, 12 silver and 13 bronze medals.
Turkish competitors snatched three gold medals, two silvers and one bronze to claim the second position. Iraqis bagged two gold medals, two silver medals and one bronze to settle for the third position.
The second So-kyokushin International Karate tournament Ohishi Cup opened in Kermanshah on August 12, and wrapped up on August 14.
The sporting event brought together over 600 athletes from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Kuwait, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Zimbabwe. The contests were held in two sections of kata and kumite.
